To prevent serious accidents caused by a driver getting sick, it is required to continuously monitor the driver’s health condition. Heartbeat is able to provide information of health condition and warns a suspected heart diseases by continuous monitoring. In this study, we proposed a non-contact heartbeat sensing method available to drivers. The method derives the heartbeat by radiating a 920 MHz electromagnetic wave to the driver, and detects the transmitted waves behind the heart. To validate the proposed method, we developed a diastole human body model and a systole human body model, and employed the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method for simulating such a situation. As a result, we confirmed the existence of an area where a difference at least 1 dB of horizontal electric fields between the diastole model and the systole model. In addition, we confirmed that optimal direction of irradiation is the front of the heart. These results show the feasibility of non-contact heartbeat detection of drivers. |
