Proposal of Method for Detecting White-of-Eye Region in Grayscale Character Line Drawing for Automatic Colorization

(in English) Colorizing line drawings requires special skill, experience, knowledge. And artists consume a lot of time and effort in creating that works. Under such a background, recently, research on automatic colorization for line drawing is actively conducted. However, there are multiple problems in existing approaches, one of which is inconsistency of the structure may arise between line drawing and automatic colorizing result. In particular, in the gray scale line drawing, both the region of the skin and white-of-eye of a person are often expressed in white. So there are cases where the boundary can not be judged by the existing approach. Therefore, in this research, we propose the automatic colorization method with segmenting white-of-eye region in gray scale line drawing by machine learning. In this paper, in order to improve the accuracy of the existing gray scale line drawing automatic colorization approach, we implemented white-of-eye region segmentation and automatic coloring approach on gray scale person line drawing, and evaluated the accuracy of the inference results.
