Acoustic waveguides are utilized for guiding sound waves and have been universally exploited for low-loss ultrasound transmission. In this presentation, different physical configurations of waveguides for ultrasound propagation are compared in terms of acoustic pressure, power and propagation modes. To obtain powerful ultrasound, novel configuration is proposed based on parabolic focusing technique, two parabolic reflectors are oppositely arranged for focusing and guiding ultrasound. The proposed mechanism can generate plane and powerful ultrasound with over 2.4 times larger than the conventional configuration in acoustic pressure amplitude, which results in superior performance for ultrasound imaging and therapeutic applications. |
