Quadrature-modulation envelope-pulse-width-modulation (EPWM) transmitter with a 180° (180HYB system) or 90° hybrid (90HYB system) as a power combiner has been proposed for higher efficiency. The 90HYB system has been reported to have better power efficiency by the simulation with ideal hybrid models. This paper compares both system with physical hybrid models. As a result, the 180HYB system has higher power efficiency when the Q factor of the bandpass filter in power amplifiers is low. This is due to the lower noise power caused by the wider low-reflection band of the 180° hybrid than the one of the 90° hybrid. |
