Cone photoreceptors transform light energy into electrical signals. Cones show the maximum light sensitivity to either long (L), medium (M), or short (S) wavelength. Anatomically, the cones form a distinctive arrangement on the retina. Their optical properties are thought to change the quality of retinal images. However, influence of physiological aberrations on vision has not been fully explained. We developed a computational model describing a cone mosaic associated with eye optics, based on anatomical and physiological characteristics of cones. By using mutual information, we analyzed the influence of optical properties on the visual processing. |
