Influence of width of magnets on shape of break arcs magnetically blown-out in a 500VDC/10A resistive circuit

(in English) Silver electrical contacts are separated at constant opening speed in a 500VDC resistive circuit. Break arcs are extinguished by magnetic blow-out. Circuit current when contacts are closed is 10A. Supply voltage is varied between 200-500V. In order to simplify horizontal deformation of the break arcs, width of permanents magnet is varied to 20, 30, 40, and 50 mm. The break arcs are photographed from two directions of the front and top sides using two high speed cameras. The shape of break arcs is analyzed by the images of the break arcs taken by the high-speed cameras. And arc duration is investigated. The following results are shown. Arc duration is not depend on the supply voltage and the width of the magnet. The curve of central portion in the horizontal direction of the break arcs increases with increasing supply voltage. The curve of central portion in the horizontal direction of the break arcs decreases with increasing width of the magnets. And the shape of break arc becomes liner from M shape.
