Arc discharge at break was generated in the electromagnetic contactor in the atmosphere and hydrogen. The arc duration ta, the arc energy Ea, and the contact resistance Rc during the arc discharge were measured. The power supply voltage was set to AC 100 V and the closed contact current Io was set to 10, 20, 30 A. Experimental results have examined the influence of various characteristics of break arc discharge by ambient gas of air (Air) and hydrogen (H2). As a result, in the air, the arc duration ta did not change even if Io increased. On the other hand, in H2, it was confirmed that ta becomes longer as Io is larger. The arc duration time ta was a relation of H2 < Air. From the observation of the contact surface after the experiment, the arc trace which seemed to have arc occurred in the center of contact surface in the atmosphere. It became wider when Io was large, and its surroundings were discolored to black. On the other hand, white arc discharge marks were formed on the entire contact surface in hydrogen, and black discoloration was confirmed around the surface. The contact resistance Rc was found to be smaller in hydrogen. |
