(in English) We analyzed signboards in local shopping-malls in Kyoto city, identifying the type of characters and languages. We confirmed that Hiragana and Chinese characters are frequently used on signboards in local shopping-malls. Most of signboards are written in Japanese which shows that the progress of multilingualization is stagnant. We also found that the progress of multilingualization depends on the design of each shopping-mall. Facing rapid increase of foreign tourists, digital signage is promising to create multilingual landscapes. We also show the current linguistic landscape on digital signage.
