Molecular communication is one of promising communication technologies, which transmits information using biomolecules (e.g., protein).
Due to its biocompatibility, molecular communications are expected to be applied to bio-nanomachines in a nano-scale environment. For realizing diffusion-based molecular communications, channel impulse response (CIR) is required for optimal detector and equalizer designs.
In the related studies, the CIR for the diffusion-based molecular communication in an ideal environment was derived in closed form. However, it is difficult to express the characteristics in a real environment by using the derived CIR because of the ideal assumption.
In this paper, we analyzed the system model considering the volume of the transmitter molecule as an example of realistic environment based on the finite element method (FEM).
Then, we evaluated the bit error rate (BER) performances for maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE)-based demodulation. |
