Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The effect on cortical entrainment of selective attention to speech and music was investigated. With selective attention, we can hear the song played as background music and the voice of the person we are talking to even in the noisy environment where many people's conversations and music are mixed. The enhancement of cortical entrainment to the selectively attended speech and event-related potential by selective attention to speech and music have been reported. However, it is unclear whether the direction of selective attention influences cortical entrainment to speech and music. In this paper, in order to investigate the entrainment by selective attention to music and speech while music and speech were presented simultaneously, the correlation function between the electroencephalogram (EEG) and either music or speech was analyzed. Furthermore, in order to investigate the diffrence in EEG between the attended stream, support vector machine using features extracted from the EEG by common spatial pattern was trained to classify whether the participant attended to speech or music. The cross-correlation function between the envelope of the auditory stimulus and the EEG showed a negative peak at the time lag around 70 ms and a positive peak at the time lag around 140 ms. As a result of task classification, 10 participants among the 17 participants achieved a classification accuracy exceeding 99%, while the other seven did the much lower. Although the cross-correlation function to the speech became larger when listening to speech than to music, cross-correlation function to music did not differ depending on the attended stream.
