Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Shapes of handwritten characters are different depending on individual writers.
At the same time, they are also slightly different even when the same writer writes the same characters.
We refer to the former property and the latter property as {it individuality} and {it variety}.
In this paper, we propose a method for automatically generating clone images of a target writer's handwritten characters
that have his/her {it individuality} and the {it variety},
assuming that the target writer provides their actual handwriting images only for several seed characters.
We call the clone images as {it handwritten character clones} or HCCs.
The proposed method generates HCCs as follows:
First, a single image that has the target writer's {it individuality} is generated for each character, which is called a standard image.
For non-seed characters, we estimate their standard images by collaborative filtering.
Then we deform the standard images by applying various displacement fields to them in order to realize the {it variety}.
Our experimental results demonstrated that.
the proposed method can generate HCCs which are similar with the target writer's actual handwriting
but are slightly different from each other.
