Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This study aims to investigate whether virtual experiences of a disaster can induce stress such as anxiety and fear based on psychophysiological data. Ten healthy participants experienced a virtual fire emergency caused by a large earthquake, and R-R intervals, skin conductance level (SCL), and psychological indices of stress were measured. The results showed that the R-R intervals were shorter and the SCL were more increased in the fire emergency than those of a virtual experience without disaster. In addition, the psychological indices showed that the participants felt more stressed in the virtual fire emergency. The results suggest that virtual experiences of disasters can be useful for emergency drills and that virtual reality can be useful for clarifying human behavior characteristics during disasters.
