A note on representation of electromagnetic wave polarization states

(in English) A polarization state of an electromagnetic wave is described by any one of the following representations: an axial ratio which carries a sign according to the sense of rotation, and a tilt angle; a complex polarization ratio; a point on the Poincaré sphere. These representations have been established and are uniquely transformed one another. But unfortunately, the detailed definitions of these representations depend on the references, and occasionally inconsistency might be found between the representations within the reference. These situations could cause unnecessary confusion. In consideration for these situations, a polarization state representation is presented based on the intuitive recognition of polarization states, which is suitable for analytical treatment and graph plotting. The presented representation is compared with those in the references.
