Numerical analysis of decoy state BBM92 quantum key distribution protocol with multi-photon rejection source

(in English) The BB84 protocol, which is a representative quantum key distribution protocol, requires a single photon source as a light source. Because development of a practical single-photon source is difficult with current technology, instead a weakly coherent pulse (WCP) is widely used as a pseudo-single-photon source. However, the photon number distribution of WCP is supposed to follow the Poissonian distribution, probabilistically contains zero-photon and two- or more-photon pluses. These pulses reduce the final key rate and transmission distance, and should be eliminated. In this research, we have proposed a modified BBM92 protocol that can reduce both zero-photon and multi-photon pulses. We show by numerical simulation that the proposed method allows over 300 km transmission with a standard fiber and avalanche photodiode based photon detectors.
