Verification of Residual Fingerprint in Grasping and Proposal on Use of Less Residual Finger Parts for Authentication
Nobuyuki Nishiuchi, Yukino Kitaguchi (TMU) BioX2019-2
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Fingerprint authentication is used in various situations, and is currently the leading method in biometrics. However, due to ease of its use, the vulnerability of leaking biological information in the form of residual fingerprints tends to be neglected. Therefore, in this paper, the residual fingerprints in processes of grasping objects in daily life are collected, and the risks of the residual fingerprints are evaluated quantitatively by using the area ratio of the residual fingerprints against the enrolled fingerprints. Finally, the possibility of use of less residual finger parts (the side of the index finger and the second joint) is verified with the existing fingerprint authentication devices.
