Impact of phase noise on transmission performance of Sub-THz band ultra-broadband wireless communications

(in English) 100Gbps ultra-broadband wireless communications using sub-THz band such as 275GHz band has been drawing a great deal of attention and IEEE802.15.3d standard for 100Gbps ultra-broadband wireless communications has been developed. As phase noise of a local oscillator in sub-THz band can be a serious problem, a phase noise model for a local oscillator using frequency multiplication at 300 GHz was proposed however no performance evaluation results using the proposed phase noise model have been reported. This report evaluates EVM(Error Vector Magnitude) using the above-mentioned phase noise model by computer simulation and reveals that EVM is significantly degraded in both narrowband and broadband transmission due to the phase noise. This report also proposes to use bandpass filter to reduce thermal noise of the local oscillator caused by frequency multiplication, and it demonstrates EVM of ultra-broadband wireless communication can be improved by using the bandpass filter.
