To cope with the ever-increasing mobile data demand and diversifying service requirements, challenges for designing 5G wireless communication systems are unprecedented. Accommodating requirements for 5G wireless communication systems, ITU-R has defined a set of performance requirements that a wireless system should satisfy to be called as an 5G wireless communication system. Among the performance metrics, mobility is defined and it is the maximum user speed that a pre-defined QoS level can be satisfied. The maximum user speed that a 5G wireless communication system should support is 500km/h which corresponds to the speed of high-speed trains. To combat expected situations under high speed environment, 3GPP NR specifications were designed. However, it does not guarantee whether 3GPP NR could satisfy the mobility requirements of ITU-R. In this talk, the details of evaluation methodologies for mobility will be shown. We will also give a concise introduction to the evaluation activities and results for mobility conducted by 3GPP TSG RAN WG1. |
