Study on effects of additives on translation-orientation coupling constant by means of experiments and molecular dynamics simulation

(in English) Complex strain-optical measurements on mixtures of 4-cyano-4'-pentylbiphenyl (5CB) - carbon-tetrachloride (CCl4) were carried out in order to re-examine effects of additive on translation-orientation coupling constant R. Effects of addition of CCl4 on R are in agreement with those obtained by dynamic light scattering measurements in our previous study. In order to investigate behavior of R in wide composition range, molecular dynamics simulations were carried out on mixtures of chain molecule n-pentane and spherical molecule 2,2-dimethylpropane. R decreased with increasing in composition of 2,2-dimethylpropane and it was proportional to composition of n-pentane. From linear response theory, orientation divided by the static orientation pair correlation per shear stress of n-pentane is independent of the composition.
