In this paper, we investigate a finite word length design of linear phase variable FIR filters with variable multiple elements of stopband having a piecewise high stopband attenuation. The variable filter's filter coefficients are composed by polynomial using variable parameters to vary filter characteristics according to variable parameters. Therefore, polynomial coefficients increase to vary multiple elements in the stopband. Focusing on filter coefficients, the higher-order terms become smaller. The higher-order terms have little effect on the characteristics of the variable filters. In the proposed method, filter coefficients are constructed with the higher-order terms reduced. In order to use the variable filters reducing polynomial coefficients for embedded devices, the design problem is minimax approximation and finite word length design. The proposed method uses a general genetic algorithm (GA) to solve the design problem. Finally, a design example of variable filters with variable multiple elements in the stopband obtained by the proposed method is shown. |
