Study of Optical Phase Characteristics of Stokes and Transmitted Light in Fiber Brillouin Scattering

(in English) Spontaneous and stimulated Brillouin scattering is a nonlinear phenomenon in optical fibers, and it is known that the states differ between spontaneous and stimulated Brillouin scattering. Although the amplitude fluctuation of the Stokes light has been confirmed in both theory and experiments, the phase characteristics have been theoretically predicted but not experimentally observed yet. In this paper, we measured the amplitude and phase characteristics of Stokes light and transmitted light by optical phase analysis using digital coherent technology. The experiments have shown the amplitude fluctuation and phase jump corresponding to the wave packet of the Stokes light. On the other hand, no amplitude fluctuation and phase leaps were observed for the transmitted light. However, it was found that the phase error variance increased for the transmitted light. The phenomenon may affect optical communication systems and measurement systems with phase sensitive characteristics.
