A Novel Compact Wavelength Selective Switch with 1-f SPOC and Dispersive Metasurface Grating

(in English) A reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing (ROADM) network has attracted attension for the flexible and effective operation of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks. In the ROADM network, a wavelength selective switch (WSS) is essential because it can add/drop arbitrary wavelength signals to the network. However its footprint becomes large because it is composed of a lot of bulk optics. There might be two factors; long optical path length consisting of 4-f optical system and degradation of the dispersion in a short optical path length. In this report, we propose a novel compact WSS consisting of 1-f optical systems and metasurface-grating/interleaver to reduce the optical path length and enhance wavelength dispersion respectively. We demonstrate 1x5 WSS supporting C+L band.
