The fifth-generation mobile communication system (5G) has three focus areas; 1) enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), 2) Ultra-Reliable and Low-Latency communications (URLLC) and 3) massive Machine Type communications (mMTC). In such new areas of URLLC and mMTC, mobile network operators need to explore new use cases, together with vertical sectors; potential 5G users. Truck platooning is one of the promising 5G application areas. We have developed a 5G prototype. We first tested the prototype in automotive test courses and then demonstrated truck platooning using it on a highway. The paper introduces our 5G prototype and reports the results of the trial. |
