Visible light communication (VLC) using an image sensor as a receiver, referred to as an image sensor communication (ISC), suffers from an inability to correctly recover data if an image captured by the receiver is degraded due to defocusing. This study proposes a novel demodulation method to overcome this problem. The proposed method first divides the LED transmitter area on the received image into two parts and sequentially demodulates the data using our previously proposed maximum likelihood decoding (MLD) method that uses pseudo-captured images. Also, the receiver performs a majority decision using results of the Euclidean distances that are calculated for the MLD method and increases the reliability of demodulation. Under simulation conditions in this study, the proposed method achieves about 90% computational complexity reduction as compared with the previous MLD method while having almost equivalent communication performance as the previous one. |
