On Relation between Eigenvalue Distribution of Single-User MIMO Transmission and Direction-of-Arrival of Multipath Incident Waves

(in English) Channel capacity of MIMO transmission is determined by the rank and the singular values of the channel matrix, which are the roots of the eigenvalues of the matrix and its Hermite transpose product; the rank is said or known to the minimum of the numbers of transmitter antennas, receiver antennas, and the incident waves of multipath. The authors of this presentation examine the relation between the DoA: direction-of-arrival of the incident waves and the rank or eigenvalues in the non-line-of-sight (NLoS) condition. The number of the paths/incident waves is assumed smaller or equal to the number of antennas both of the basestation and the mobile station. Simulation results show that the rank decreases when the DoAs of two or more incident waves are the same direction and that the lower order eigenvalues decrease in case that the DoAs are close together.
