A Study on Setting of an Energy Detection Threshold with SNR Estimation

(in English) Energy detection (ED) is a popular signal detection method for spectrum sensing and spectrum usage
measurement in dynamic spectrum sharing from the point of view of its computational complexity and required a
priori information in terms of the signal of interest. There exist several detection threshold setting criteria since the
detection performance of ED depends on the threshold. The threshold must be set adaptively under a dynamically
changing radio environment as the threshold setting criteria depend on the radio environment such as signal to noise
ratio (SNR) and noise power. In this paper, we propose an SNR estimation algorithm whereby satisfying a given
threshold setting criterion needed SNR information. Extensive numerical evaluations show that the proposed SNR
estimation-based detection threshold setting can provide outstanding detection performance compared with existing
SNR estimation-based detection threshold settings.
