Evaluation method of common-mode conversion in communication device connected with STP cable

(in English) A mixed-mode S-parameter and a longitudinal conversion loss have been proposed for evaluation of mode conversion between differential mode and common mode in a communication device. For a cable having two signal lines and shield conductor (STP cable), however, three types of mode should be required. A communication devices connected with a shielded and balanced pair line was focused on this report. In a transmission line consisted of pair coupling lines, a surrounding shield and system ground, one differential mode and two type of common mode were defined. Additionally, a voltage ratio between the differential mode and the common mode was derived in order to evaluate mode conversion in the communication device connected with the STP cable. Using a circuit simulator, the derived ratio of modal voltages corresponded to the common mode current flowing in the STP cable.
