Exploration of image features associated with ruptures of intracranial aneurysms using magnetic resonance angiography

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Ruptures of intracranial aneurysms are serious conditions resulting in subarachnoid hemorrhage. We hypothesized that the probability of aneurysm ruptures would be associated with geometrical size as well as heterogeneity. The purpose of this study was to explore image features on magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) images associated with the ruptures of intracranial aneurysms. The MRA images including 33 follow-up (FU) cases and 10 ruptured aneurysm (RA) cases were chosen for this study. 488 texture features of the aneurysms were derived within aneurysm regions. Each image feature was tested based on a p-value representing statistically significant difference in means between FU and RA cases by using Student’s t test or Welch’s t test according to the statistical property of each image feature. 232 significant features in 488 features such as LLH_Contrast (p=1.02x10-8), LLH_SRHGE (p=1.70x10-8), and LLH_HGRE (p=5.11x10-8) were discovered as significant features. The 232 image features might be employed for prediction of aneurysm ruptures by monitoring the features on MRA images.
