Efficient Design Approach of Metallic Photonic Crystal Bandpass Filter using Off-Centered Post-Wall Irises for 5G Applications

(in English) A metallic photonic crystal (M-PhC) structure, consisting of a periodic array of via holes in a low-loss printed circuit board, has many advantages such as small size, light weight, and high Q and planar-circuit integration. To theoretically design an N-stage direct-coupled M-PhC-resonator filters with asymmetrical inductive metal posts, a step tune method is presented to simulate the filter by successively adding one resonator at a time. The physical dimensions of the added resonator are then extracted from the theoretical frequency characteristics based on the corresponding partitioned coupling matrix. As an example, the simulated results of the sixth order MPhC direct-coupled resonator filter has shown that the passband is from 26.7 GHz to 29.3GHz, while the input return loss is better than 20 dB, within about 9.3 % bandwidth around 28.0 GHz.
