Preliminary Examination of Impedance Discontinuity Detection on Wire Network by Sequence Time Domain Reflectometry

(in English) In this paper, we examine the impedance discontinuity detection on wire network by applying sequence time domain reflectometry (STDR) using maximal-length codes (M-sequences). This paper especially examines impedance discontinuity detection under the multiple reflection that generates at nodes on wire network. First, the preliminary investigation of impedance discontinuity detection on a wire network with one node is performed and it was confirmed that STDR that performs the cross-correlation of the received signal with the incident signal exhibits higher noise immunity than TDR. Next, it was demonstrated that STDR is able to distinguish the impedance discontinuity of various (resistive, inductive, and capacitive) impedance variation on a wire from the shape of the reflected signal. Finally, it was also demonstrated that STDR is able to detect the location of the impedance discontinuity due to small inductance on a wire network with four nodes.
