IEEE 802.22 was standardized as one of the TVWS (TV White Spaces) communication systems and is expected to support a full-coverage and cost-effective traffic environment in rural areas because of its superior propagation characteristics. To apply IEEE 802.22 to a vehicular network, it is necessary to improve the receiver architecture and enhance the receiver tolerance in a highly mobile communication environment since IEEE 802.22 was standardized for point-to-multipoint fixed communication. In this study, we develop an SDR (Software Defined Radio)-based evaluation platform to evaluate the PHY (Physical Layer) performance of highly mobile IEEE 802.22. With an experiment framework presented in this study, the proposed platform can be used for the evaluation of the receiver algorithm in not only the laboratory experiment but also the field experiment. As a measurement result in the laboratory experiment, the SDR-based evaluation system achieves similar performance with computer simulation, and thus, the feasibility of highly mobile IEEE 802.22 is further demonstrated. Besides, the proposed evaluation platform allows the investigation and evaluation of various PHY algorithms without hardware and software limitations. |
