Novel open and disaggregate optical-networking technologies promise to enhance multi-vendor interoperability in future large-scale optical networks, which is not only desired for the reduction of CAPEX and OPEX, but also expected to solve the severe problem of recovery resource shortage in case of emergency due to disasters. Vendor neutral disaggregate ROADM models play an important role in open and automatic optical network control and management. In addition to the existing device/network modeling of the conventional legacy ROADM networks, for disaggregate ROADM systems consisting of diverse blades, blade modeling and the corresponding automatic generation of entire ROADM level model from the blade level model is necessary. In this report, we introduce our study of a functional block-based disaggregation (FBD)-based novel modeling approach. FBD is beneficial for modeling the individual blades at the blade level and forming the ROADM level device model and therefore network model by aggregating and processing the individual blade models. We present our preliminary experimental results showing the automated network operations with our novel modeling approach in a multi-layer/multi-domain disaggregate ROADMs network prototype field testbed. |
