5G wireless communications use electromagnetic (EM) waves in 28 GHz band. High-directivity(gain) antennas are actually used in this frequency band and EM waves radiated from the antennas are hence reflected in a specular direction by room walls. If there are obstructions in between the transmitting and receiving antennas inside the room, wireless communication quality will be deteriorated since neither direct wave nor reflected wave reaches the receiver. We have been proposed an EM scattering wall realizing the wide scattering pattern for improvement of wireless communication quality. In this paper, a metamaterial (MTM) is used to make EM scattering wall thin. The design of the MTM and the pattern of EM scattering wall are calculated using an equivalent circuit and array antenna theory, respectively. |
