Electric Field Direction and CaBi2Ta2O9/Bi4Ti3O12 Ultrasonic Performance at elevated temperatures

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The piezoelectric sol-gel composite can be used as an ultrasonic transducer for nondestructive inspection. Generally, a Pb(Zr,Ti)O3(PZT) material is used for the sol-gel phase. However, it is feared that the high temperature durability is deteriorated due to the inclusion of the lead component and the mismatch between the poling voltage direction and the measurement applied voltage direction.
In this study, CaBi2Ta2O9/Bi4Ti3O12(CBTa/BiT) was prepared as a lead-free material. Normally, the pulser receiver (P/R) used during measurement applies a negative voltage, so it is possible to poling with a negative voltage or to make the P/R voltage positive and poling with a positive voltage. However, the negative ions became unstable at high temperature, and poling was impossible at negative voltage. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the effect of the electric field direction by setting the poling voltage to be positive and the applied voltage at the time of measurement to be positive and negative, and found that the electric field direction did not affect the high temperature durability in CBTa/BiT.
