The isolation and the cross-polarization discrimination of a patch antenna can be enhanced by feeding the antenna differentially. To realize a compact and low-profile differentially-feed patch antenna with dual polarizations, this report presents a 6-port power divider as the feeding network of the patch antenna. The $S$-parameter matrix is derived by analyzing the transmission-line model of the 6-port power divider. The circuit analysis shows that the 6-port power divider with two equal-amplitude and out-of-phase divisions for dual polarizations can be realized in consideration of the impedance bandwidth and the isolations by tuning the characteristic impedances of the transmission lines. Two stripline 6-port power dividers with the fractional impedance bandwidths (reflections $leq -10,$dB) of 5% and 10% are designed based on the circuit analysis. A good agreement between the circuit and electromagnetic analyses is confirmed. |
