In optical transmission systems, the extension of the optical-band used for wavelength division multiplexing is a promising approach for increasing a system capacity. This paper reports a wide-band WDM inline-amplified transmission experiment by optical parametric amplification (OPA) using a periodically poled LiNbO3 (PPLN) waveguide. PPLN-based OPA in this experiment was polarization-independent, and had spectrally-efficient structure by filtering the phase conjugation light. Phase-insensitive optical amplifier with 5.125-THz bandwidth and over-15 dB gain was achieved. We have successfully demonstrated 92.4-km (3 span × 30.8 km) WDM transmission with PPLN-based OPA, using 41 × 800-Gbps WDM signal with a 125-GHz WDM spacing. |
