The efficiency of ultrasonic atomization can be improved if a horn is attached to the ultrasonic transducer during atomization. This is because the ultrasonic waves are reflected inside the horn and are focused at the tip of the horn. In this study, ultrasonic waves radiated through the tips of horns with different diameters were visualized by the schlieren method, where tone burst waves at 1 MHz were radiated and the sound propagation was observed by shifting the timing of the strobe flash light. In addition, discontinuous Galerkin finite element method (DG-FEM) simulations were performed and compared with experiments. As a result, the smaller the horn's upper end diameter, the more the ultrasonic waves spread out as they propagated. The experimental results were in good agreement with the simulation results. |
