Multi-Channel Simultaneous Encryption in WDM Systems of PSK Y-00 Quantum Stream Cipher

(in English) Tapping from an optical fiber link is a potential security risk in optical communication systems. Physical layer encryption utilizing physical property of light is a promising technique to make such tapping impossible. We focus on Y-00 quantum stream cipher utilizing multilevel optical modulation with a pre-shared seed key. Interception of the multilevel optical signal by an eavesdropper is disrupted by quantum (shot) noise in the cipher system. This paper reports multi-channel simultaneous encryption for a WDM system of phase-shift-keying Y-00 cipher. Experimental results show that four channels of 12-Gbaud QPSK data signals are simultaneously encrypted with common two-cascaded phase modulators and that the encrypted channels are successfully decrypted using a pre-shared key.
