[Poster Presentation] Comparison of subjective characteristics between binaural rendering and stereo width control method

(in English) Recently, most of casual listeners listen to music via headphones and earphones to listen to music. However, almost all of music sound sources assume the reproduction using loudspeakers and cannot naturally reproduce spatial impression through earphones and headphones. In this study, stereo music sources are converted by either binaural rendering or stereo width control. The former convolves head-related impulse responses into the original stereo sources, and the latter shrinks the perceptual spatial width by adding the monaural signal into the original stereo sources. Perceptual differences in between the above methods are investigated in detail on several spatial attributes. The comprehensive characteristics on spatial impression between binaural rendering and stereo width control have been discussed in the previous report. In this paper, characteristics of each spatial impression are investigated as well as the dependency on music genre.
