In the Society5.0 era, spectrum shortage and spectrum efficiency degradation will become more serious. To solve these problems, development of new radio systems and coexistence technologies with incumbent systems is being promoted, while it takes a lot of time and cost to put them into practical use. In particular, field experiments using actual radio devices have difficulties in the evaluation in various environments with sufficient reproducibility. In addition, large-scale field experiment with thousands of radio devices is unrealistic from the viewpoint of time and cost. To enable design, evaluation, and verification of such cutting-edge and/or large-scale radio systems reasonably, the authors develop an all-new radio emulation system that provides a virtual experiment field with various environments and scenarios by interconnecting cyber and physical radio nodes. This paper summarizes concept, architecture, and research topics of the advanced radio emulation system. |
