(in English) High-speed surface-normal optical modulators are required for applications such as optical imaging, optical interconnect, laser processing, and optical computation. Currently, spatial light modulators based on liquid crystal face a limitation in the modulation speed. The authors have proposed a novel type of optical modulator using silicon sub-wavelength gratings and electro-optical polymer (EO polymer) and demonstrated its high-speed intensity modulator operation. Here, we design and fabricate a reflective optical phase modulator by adding a gold mirror to this optical intensity modulator and observe a phase change.
