Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, in order to find vulnerable IoT devices for cyber-attacks, network scans have been required. In existing network scan application for a wide area of the Internet, this scanner performs the network scan as possible as quickly in order to scan a lot of devices. However, when performing the network scan toward wireless networks especially LPWA, the network may easily be congested due to scan traffic, which lead QoS degradation of background traffic due to occurring retransmission. Therefore, network scanner needs to keep the retransmission rate of the background traffic at an allowable level, with estimating the retransmissions considering the difference of network situation of each scan target network .In this paper, we propose a method to estimate the retransmission rate of the background traffic from a scan response delay based on an empirical analysis through computer simulations considering a Wi-SUN sensor network with two different network situations. First, through this analysis, we confirm that a regression function can be derived using the least-squares method for the mean of the scan response delay and the retransmission rate. Next, from the results of the analysis, we introduce two types of estimator to estimate the retransmission rate of the background traffic from the scan response delay and the regression functions. One aims to estimate the situation of the target network from the distribution of the scan response delay. The other aims to estimate the retransmission rate of the background traffic in the target network. We evaluate the estimation accuracy of the retransmission rate using the proposed method. We confirm that the proposed method can estimate the retransmission rate of the target network with the average error of lower than 5.5% regardless of the situation of the target network and the scan rate.
