Closed syllables in Japanese polular songs

(in English) Japanese has been said to be an open syllable language. The coda consonants are limited to a nasal and gemination. However, in popular music, vowel deletion occurs in order to make feet mono-syllabic. For example, ``aizu" [ai.zu] is pronounced [aiz] to fit a single note. Such vowel deletion and closed syllable structure is a result of language contact with English.
