A Legibility Estimation Method for AR Contents Projected on Surfaces with Patterns
Naoyuki Kazuta, Toru Abe, Takuo Suganuma (Tohoku Univ.) HIP2020-54
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Projected Augmented Reality (projected AR) is technology that directly overlays AR contents onto physical objects by using projectors. When texts, symbols, or figures are projected as the AR contents, although their legibility is one of the most vital matters, some object surfaces decrease the legibility of the projected contents considerably. Accordingly, several projector-camera systems have been proposed for improving the legibility of projected contents, where projection conditions (input to a projector) are adjusted according to the legibility estimated from captured images of projected contents. This manuscript proposes a novel method for estimating the legibility of AR contents projected on surfaces with patterns (especially ease of discrimination between the projected AR contents and the background), which takes into account the effect of patterns on surfaces by using edge information in the captured images of projected contents.
