Implementation and Evaluation of an Edge Computing Testbed Simplifying Creation of Experimental Environments

(in English) Testing applications of edge computing requires to build an experimental environment including servers responding to clients within the latencies. However, building the experimental environment and setting up the response times of servers require an enormous amount of work. In this paper, we propose a testbed system deploying a Docker container by a request with a simple specification of the response time. In the proposed system, the concept of virtual regions, which is a network topology abstraction, is used to simplify the container request. We describe an implementation of the testbed system, in which the virtual region functionality is added to Kubernetes. Furthermore, network isolation is provided, to ensure the security of testbed users. We conducted experiments and confirmed that the system worked properly.
