Investigation by Etest® heterotrophic bacteria isolated from purified water production line

(in English) Currently, the number of dialysis patients in Japan exceeds 300,000, and nearly 30% of them are treated by a method online HDF. Since this method requires the dialysate to be injected into the blood circuit, it is important to clean the dialysate. There are biological requirements, endotoxin activity and viable cell count are measured as biological contamination tests. However, the identification of called heterotrophic bacteria to be detected and the general bacteriological properties are rarely examined. We considered that the investigation of various properties of these bacteria would be an important study for improving the quality of dialysis treatment, and investigated the drug susceptibility to the bacterial group isolated from the purified water production line. As a result, some heterotrophic bacteria were resistant to β-lactam antibiotics, and some were resistant to aminoglycoside antibiotics.
