This study proposes several asymmetric kernel functions and their availability of applying to time series data. The kernel density estimation is often used to calculate probability density of the parent population from the sample data. Especially in time series data, probability densities at before and after the event are not always symmetric. But the kernel functions applied in this approach are mostly symmetric and may not reflect the features of the data enough. In this study, asymmetric kernel functions are applied to the travel data of vehicles and the result shows the availability of applying asymmetric kernel functions to time series data. |
