[Invited Lecture] Development of a Wireless Link System for 4K/8K Broadcast Program Production

(in English) For broadcast program production such as sports coverage or emergency reporting, video and audio program contributions from the site are transmitted by radio using portable wireless link system called Field Pick-up Unit (FPU). For transmission of 4K/8K video materials, wireless link system is also demanded. The authors are conducting research on a next generation mobile FPU system that enables wirelessly relaying 4K/8K video materials such as road race broadcasting programs. We are working on increasing the capacity by 4×4 TDD-SVD-MIMO technology that adaptively controls transmit parameters depending on channel conditions. We conducted a field trial and demonstrated a reliable transmission of the 8K video. In this paper, the outline of our developed system and technologies which build up the mobile FPU system is reported.
