Reappearance of faded afterimages

(in English) In this study, we investigated the reappearance of a faded negative afterimage by psychophysical methods. We tested blinks and various flashes to clarify the conditions where faded afterimages reappeared. The restoration ratio of afterimages was used as an index of the effect. The reappearance of afterimages was promoted by the bright or dark flash stimulation. The flash of color or texture induced the same afterimage restoration ratio as that by the bright or dark flash. It was also found that the flash of the color (red) that formed the afterimage had the same afterimage recovery effect as that by a blink and was most effective.
