An evaluation on how a QoS mechanism for IEEE 802.15.4 affects communication quality of RPL networks

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) RPL (RFC 6550: IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks) and IEEE 802.15.4 are key components of wide-area IoT systems. However, with a typical configuration, an RPL network topology often breaks under heavy communication traffic. To improve stability and communication quality of RPL, this paper evaluates an impact of MAC-layer parameters on RPL networks by simulation experiments. We develop a simple QoS mechanism for IEEE 802.15.4, which allows us to evaluate different sets of parameters for different traffic types. We analyze the result in terms of network connectivity and communication performance.
