Adaptive Interference/Radio Resource Management Integrating Inner-cell Interference Coordination and Inter-cell Interference Coordination for 5G Advanced Ultra-dense RAN

(in English) Ultra-densification of radio access network (RAN) is essential to efficiently handle the ever-increasing mobile data traffic. In ultra-dense RAN consisting of a large number of distributed antennas and users, the computational complexity of large-scale multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) becomes prohibitively high. To solve this complexity problem, users are grouped into several clusters and cluster-wise MU-MIMO is carried out simultaneously using the same radio resource. However, strong inter-cluster interference is produced. Furthermore, if distributed radio resource management (RRM) is introduced to make possible highly scalable and flexible deployment of ultra-dense RAN, inter-cell interference is produced. Recently, in order to mitigate the inter-cluster and inter-cell interferences, the authors presented the concept of enhanced interference coordination (eIC) for ultra-dense RAN. In this paper, we propose the eIC consisting of centralized inner-cell (inter-cluster) interference coordination using multi-layered user clustering and autonomous distributed inter-cell interference coordination using channel segregation based fractional frequency reuse (CS-FFR). We evaluate the user capacity, the sum capacity, and the fairness among users by computer simulation to show the effectiveness of the proposed eIC.
